Returned it. August 14, 2010 Sue Mearns (Rochester, NY United States) This looked like a well made product, but when it arrived I saw that it was bulkier and heavier than I expected (tho the wgt and dimensions were correct in the product description.) so I returned it unused because I thought it would be difficult to store and set up for the few times we would use it.
Best Appliance I ever Bought August 9, 2010 Patricia Gomez I purchased this indoor grill about a week ago and it came so quickly. I used my grill the very next day and cooked a rib-eye steak. It came out great! The next day I used it to grill Lime-cilantro srimp skewers and they came out perfect. I used it again for breakfast. I can't wait to use it again. I don't think I will ever grill outside again.
Good machine July 1, 2010 Piper Pages (Spokane, WA) This is a good grill because of the lid. Most indoor grills do not have lids.
The only thing I do not like is that it is hard to clean by hand because of the small holes in the gill plate.
It has to be put in the dish washer.
Best Indoor Grill June 25, 2010 Dale L. Marlowe (Las Vegas, NV) I purchased the West Bend indoor grill after months of researching all the grills available. The West Bend indoor grill was by far the best choice and does not disappoint! I like it so much I ordered a 2nd one for my daughter and she is very pleased with it also.
Slow and Hard To Clean June 21, 2010 Richard Rankin (Missouri) After reading the reviews, I had high hopes for this grill. I mainly wanted to be able to grill veggies during the months when it is too cold to be outside, plus veggie burgers, etc. If I had used it sooner, I'd probably have sent it back.
The grill takes a good 10 minutes to heat up properly. Once heated, most of the grill is consistently hot but there are still cold spots. Food needs to be moved around. Cooking times are way longer than one would expect with a grill. In a way, this is problematic, but it also allows you to cook things with less likelihood of burning them. I don't eat meat, so can't say how long something temperature critical like chicken might take.
The griddle side heats much more evenly and cooks more consistently, but also much more quickly. You can easily do things like sauteed mushrooms on the side for one or two people, fry sausages, and that sort of thing.
The water tray underneath does go a long way towards eliminating smoke in the house.
The two major drawbacks are
1) the size. It is far larger than it needs to be to support the cooking area it has. This thing is huge.
2) Cleaning. The dishwasher does not clean it, and you can plan on doing a lot of scrubbing unless you brush it clean while it is still hot. If the grill cools before cleaning, it is nearly impossible to clean. It may be dishwasher safe, but it doesn't come clean in the dishwasher.
