Drying apple slices in just three hours and beef jerky in four, this 1000-watt dehydrator is exceptionally fast, using a big, 4-1/2-inch fan to force air up through the drying trays' outer rings and across each tray. A thermostat adjusts from 95 degrees to 155 degrees for drying different items. Each of the four plastic trays is 13-3/4 inches in diameter and 1/4 inch deep—that's four square feet for drying fruits, vegetables, herbs, or flowers at one time. Additional trays can be ordered separately, and up to 30 trays can be stacked on this unit's metal base at once. I purchased my dehydrator while in college, over 10 years ago. (Big spend at the time) I scanned the reviews and see that most people seem to be using it for either garden vegies, fruits, mushrooms or jerkey. While, I have done all of those things-from kiwis to cherries or (not actually) sun dried tomatoes etc, I mostly use mine to dry foods for backpacking. Anything from egg burritos (breakfast burritos), to a beef asparagus stir fry-you name it. It is not practical for drying tomato sauce. It can also be overloaded with overly moist tomato sauce and meat (can mold). Tomato sauce and meat is best dried with pasta-try elbow mac. I use the dehydrator in conjunction with a food saver. If you are like me and prefer to be in charge of what you eat and how much you pay for the food, you will completely satisfied with the purchase. It continues to serve me well. Last point, I am content to beat up on things I don't like-this isn't one of them.

Use this for dog training treats...and it's great! Does have some airflow differences but once you figure out that the first and the third trays dry faster than the other two you're good to go! I will be buying more trays soon!

Never again will you ever buy disgusting beef jerkey from the grocery store. You will never find better tasting jerky than the one you will make with this dehydrator. My dad has owned this same model for the past 5 years, still works perfectly.

we received a damaged product - we used it once and there was a loud clanking noise as if something were hitting inside the unit, something loose inside the unit - we tried shaking it back in place, but no luck so we made arrangements to return/replace it - unfortunately the replacement was shipped to a different address than the one we made arrangements for w/ the customer service rep so it was picked up by ups and the broken one we brought to a ups store to return - we were told 2-3 weeks for our refund
