4 out of 5 stars Very happy with rice cooker   July 18, 2010

We weren't sure we needed a rice steamer after making rice several times a week on the stove top for 47 years, but we love it for white rice and are getting used to it with brown. It is convenient and dependable.

2 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware Faulty Switch   May 30, 2010

From the very first time I used the Aroma rice cooker, the switch for "cook" would move to the"warm" position within the first minutes of cooking. I would catch it and push it back to "cook". After about 5 uses the switch completely broke and I couldn't set it to anything. I have to say that if I didn't have this problem I would have kept the cooker because the rice came out great and we enjoyed it. I returned it to Amazon and actually ordered the same one again. I guess my thinking was what would be the odds of getting another one like that. Well I guess I got the jackpot because the new one also had the same switch problem. I said, "enough is enough" and picked a Sanyo rice cooker. I did see in the reviews that someone else had the same problem with their Aroma rice cooker, just thought it was one-of-a-kind issue, guess not!

2 out of 5 stars Great rice with TWO huge drawbacks   April 30, 2010

This is my first rice steamer, so I read reviews on dozens of rice cookers and the common problem I read about was the steamers spitting starchy liquid out the top and onto the counter. The review on this particular steamer, none of them complained about it spitting during cooking, so I knew this was the one I wanted. I just got it today and used it. The rice came out light and fluffy, much better than I could have ever made it in a pan on the stove. ONE drawback, and it is a problem I have read in alot of reviews on numerous other steamers...it does leave a thin layer of rice browned and sort of stuck to the bottom of the pan. I even sprayed the pan with pam spray first like the book suggested but it still browned the bottom of the rice. It's still not that big of a deal. I scooped out all the rice and left the thin layer of browned rice in the pan until it cooled then just scraped it out into the trash & washed the inner cooking bowl. My biggest complaint is I paid [...] for this steamer 4 days ago and today on Amazon it is [...] cheapr. It's only [...] now. I got this one off Amazon. It makes me mad. Why couldn't they have dropped the price before I bought mine? I am not a pro at steamers but I would recommend this one based on the great rice it made and it only took about 16 minutes to cook it.
*************UPDATE************* I AM UPDATING THIS REVIEW*************************
My good review came from only using the steamer to make 2 cups of rice at a time. Today I tried to make 4 cups at a time and had a HUGE disaster & mess. Not only did it SPIT starchy liquid from the top, it poured starchy rice water from the top all over the counter and all over the machine. It took me 15 minutes just to clean up the mess. If all you are ever going to cook is 2 cups at a time, then this machine will be fine. Any more than that and this machine is useless.

1 out of 5 stars Bad Experience   April 26, 2010

I had a bad experience with this rice cooker. The first few times it worked OK, but later I found that the rice cooker would switch to "Warm" mode within about 5 minutes of cooking. When I would open the lid I found that there is a lot of water still remaining and the rice is not cooked at all. Worst is,it wouldn't let me switch it back to the "Cook" mode. I'm not sure if this was a defective piece. Anyways I have returned it to Amazon, and ordered a Zojirushi rice cooker. Need a reliable rice cooker!
